Phillip Ndunguru was one of East Africa’s pioneering cartoonists. In the late 1970s, Ndunguru became the chief cartoonist for Sani magazine. After the magazine ended in 1981, Ndunguru became a self-employed artist. In 1983 he went to work in Nairobi at the Kenya Times, there he created the popular character Kazibure. Unfortunately in 1986 at the age of only 24, Phillip Ndunguru passed away unexpectedly. His cartoons are still remembered and were reprinted after his death.
