Biography

Nathan Mapangala, a.k.a. “Kijasti” (slang for “vest” in Swahili) is a Dar es Salaam-based artist. He works as a cartoonist and illustrator for newspapers and educational publications. His work has appeared in a wide range of publications including The Express, Dar Leo, Uhuru, Mwananchi, Mfanyakazi, Dimba, Sanifu, Majira, Nipashe, Spoti, Uwazi and Maisha. In addition to his work as an artist, Kijasti has served as the chairman of the Popular Association of Cartoonists in Tanzania (PACT). In 1996 he received a certificate of appreciation from USAID for his contributions to HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitization efforts in Tanzania.
