Learn More about Johann Venter

Bio

Johann Venter was born in Bloemfontein South Africa in 1953 and received his B.A. in Fine Arts from University of Potchefstroom in 1976. After that, he worked as a layout artist for Die Volksblad and Huisgenoot and drew children’s comics for Huisgenoot’s supplement for children called Jongspan.

In addition to his cartooning, he illustrated the beloved children’s series Karel Poskabouter, which he worked on with Johan Coetzee from 1983-1987 and with Elza Bokelman starting in 1987. He also was famous for his spray paint designs for surfboards. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions for children’s illustrations because of his work on Karel Poskabouter.
