Johan Van Niekerk worked as a cartoonist for several Afrikaans newspapers in the 1960s and 70s, including Die Huisgenoot and Die Burger. His first strip, which he worked on with Doc Immelman, was “Die Olifante gan Kalanga” for Die Huisgenoot. His most famous strip was “Fritz Bender,” which ran in Die Huisgenoot and featured a James Bond-like main character. He illustrated the strip “Sending vir’n Voortvlugtige” written by Cor Nortje for Die Burger throughout the 1970s.
