Biography
Tahar Djehiche is a cartoonist and primary school teacher from El Oued, Algeria. He publishes many of his political cartoons on social media. On May 10, 2015, Djehiche was convicted of inciting mob violence with his cartoon of Presient Bouteflika at the bottom of an hourglass being buried by sand from Ain Salah. This cartoon expressed Djehiche’s opposition to the drilling of shale gas in the Sahara. If convicted Djehiche would have served six months in prison and fine of 500,000 dinars. He was acquitted by a local court on May 26, 2015.
