Biography
Alan Wolter began his cartooning career making humorous drawings for a number of South African magazines, such as The Bluff Rateplayer and Glimlag Kliphard, while living in Durban. He worked as an animator for Legioen Films and joined the Daily Dispatch as a full time cartoonist in 1979. At the Dispatch, he produced the editorial cartoon, a front page mini-cartoon, and ‘A Sports Smile.’ He also developed the character Nohmle, who appeared in Indaba, a supplement for the Dispatch. He also wrote under the pseudonym “Retlow.”
